Imagine you are driving your car on a rainy day, heading to an important meeting, and suddenly you notice that you have a flat tire. At that moment, even if you have a spare tire with you, it is still an exhausting and time-consuming activity, which you always want to avoid. All of us have been through such situations at one point or another in our lives. Therefore, today we bring you the best tips that will immensely help you avoid a flat tire and make your travels hassle-free.

Checking Tire Pressure

The first one on our list is definitely checking your tires for proper inflation before starting your journey. We recommend checking your tire pressures at least once a week. If you do not know the recommended value for your tires, you can always check the car’s manual. Moreover, it is preferable to check the pressures before starting a trip since warm tires can fluctuate your readings.

If you happen to have a tire pressure monitoring system in your vehicle that does not mean you should look at your tires only when you see the warning sign. Warning signs mostly show up once your tires are sufficiently underinflated. Moreover, relying on visual inspections will not do you any good either.

Apart from saving you the trouble of changing tires, checking the tire pressures regularly will also significantly increase the lifespan of your tires and even the mileage of your car.

Rotating Tires

Regular rotation of the tires helps prevent the creation of uneven wear patterns along with increasing the lifespan of your car’s tires. You can also view the guidelines for rotation of your tires in your vehicle’s manual. Generally, the tires should be rotated every 5000 miles. However, it depends on many factors including the tire quality and your local road conditions. It also gives you the opportunity to inspect the tires for damage or inflation while you rotate them.

Avoiding Hazardous Areas

Although many times it becomes unavoidable, try to find alternative routes if you come across areas where construction activities are happening or if the roads happen to be of low quality. You can often find nails, glass and metal pieces, and some sharp rocks on such roads, which can eventually puncture your tire. You might also come across potholes or other pavement defects in such areas, which might ultimately lead you to a flat tire or even damage to other parts of your car. In such cases, several cracks develop on your tires.

Avoid Overloading

Overloading your car results in quick deterioration of the tires thereby making them more susceptible to punctures. Usually, there is a label on your tire that tells you the recommended pressure and the maximum weight it can sustain. Make sure to check that. If you have to transport a heavy load anyway, then it is a good idea to increase your tire pressure a little bit. This will make sure that your tires can carry a load of your vehicle appropriately.
